Sunday and me in front of Monet's pink house.
ABOUT THE ARTIST...
Birthplace: Lynn, Mass. but I grew up in Hatboro, Penna.
Training: BA in Fine Arts, Phila. College of Art , the College of NJ and Edison State College
Favorite Artists: Monet, Cassatt, Cezanne, Henry Tanner, Paul Klee
Favorite Studio Music: The Messiah, Annie Herring, Nicole C Mullin, Ruth Naomi Floyd, that's classical, Christian pop and jazz. I like variety! I like expressions of worship from different eras and cultures! I think God likes variety too.
Passions: Children and family, mission, reconciliation of many kinds: people to God(2 Corinthians 5:18-20)and to one another, especially in the body of Christ, and people to Godly living and care for the earth that we live on. (Psalm 24:1)Think of meadows and streams, the sea, beautiful countryside and flowers and birds. If our activities make the earth a desolate place, what will life be like for our children and other people's children?. (see Target Earth)
ABOUT THE ART...
Media: Usually watercolor or pencil and computer
Style(s): Realistic but not "tight", impressionistic, loose watercolors
I use a different style for postcards that I do for my son's ministry which I try to give a more post modern abstract city or universal feel.
Primary Subject(s): flowers, seasons and portraits and abstracts that present scripture and poetry about life.
Price Range: I sometimes sell originals (between $25 and $600) but I usually sell prints,
art cards and postcards.
ARTIST STATEMENT...
I've loved to draw all my life and went to the Phila. College of Art for a year, then got married, had two children, and moved into a very different inner city world. During my child rearing years I went back to PCA for a 2nd year, then finished school in NJ when my children were in college. I have wanted to serve the Creator with my art so I have done book covers, magazine covers, paintings, cards and displays for Christian organizations. I have also done art with and for children. My paintings of people are often of mothers and children of various races. My flowers are done for joy in their beauty which is calling out to us in everyday life and are a sudden reminder that we are not alone. As Jesus said "consider the lilies...how they grow...will God not much more care for you?" The urban postcards I hope, give a similar message to a more urban audience. "You matter. You can choose a life worth living with God. He cares for you. Have faith in Him. Find HimMissions interest
